Construction Update #8 – 11/3/2023

The construction team has made significant process in the construction of 2 and 6 Lamartine! Below are current updates:

  • Continued excavation for 2 Lamartine St.
  • Footings and foundation walls for 6 Lamartine St. are near completion
  • Continued temporary water bypass work
  • Continued exploration of existing utility work on Heath Street. Roadwork will commence once this exploration work is finalized.
  • Mockup wall construction which includes windows and storefront mock up is near completion**
    • Mock-ups are typically full-size representations of proposed construction, built in order to evaluate proposed design and construction details or to test for performance. Utilizing mock-ups can help prevent rework and keep a project both on time and on budget.

Construction Update #7 – 10/5/2023

The construction team has made significant process in the construction of 2 and 6 Lamartine! Below are current updates:

  • Continued site excavation
  • Footings and foundation walls for 6 Lamartine St. have begun being poured
  • Continued temporary water bypass work
  • Completion of the removal of the underground steam tunnels
  • Exploration of existing utility work on Heath Street. Roadwork will commence once this exploration work is finalized.
  • Ongoing mockup wall construction which includes windows and storefront mock up wall.

ATTENTION ALL RESIDENTS

Please be advised that there will be scheduled utility work taking place on Heath Street between approximately August 7th and September 1st. During this time, there will be one lane of traffic between around 9:30 am to 3:30 pm daily, between around Bromley Street and Columbus Avenue. We kindly request your patience and cooperation during this period as we strive to minimize any inconveniences caused by these necessary infrastructure improvements. Thank you for your understanding.

Construction Update #6 – 7/25/2023

2 and 6 Lamartine St. site work is progressing! This work includes the following:

  • Excavation of dirt and soils to make way for the foundation for the two new buildings and updated utilities which includes water and sewer drainage lines
  • Soil removal off the site
  • Removal of steam tunnels underneath the construction site

*Please note that work will soon begin on Heath Street for a duration of around 1 month. Please use caution when walking on Heath Street close to the construction site.

Construction Update 5 – 6/27/2023

Site work has started!

  • Excavation to install new underground utilities and the foundations for 2 and 6 Lamartine St. residential buildings will occur this Summer and is anticipated to be complete in Fall 2023.
  • Removal of underground pipes in progress
  • Tree removal along the SW corridor is complete

Construction Update 4 – 5/22/23

Demolition of 24-34 Heath Street and the AMC is complete!

  • Removal of demolition debris will continue to be hauled off-site.
  • Full-depth excavation will begin to make way for the building foundations for the two new buildings and the new Lamartine Street, including new underground utilities.
  • Excavation is anticipated to be complete in Fall 2023.

Construction Update 3 – 4/11/23

Demolition has commenced!

  • Abatement of 24-34 Heath Street and AMC is complete and demolition will begin on both buildings this week. Demo targeted to be complete mid-to-late May 2023.
  • Demolition of the granite bleachers, picnic area, playground and splash pad next to the AMC continues.
  • Tree removal near completion.

Construction Update 2 – 3/14/2023

Construction site preparation is complete and demolition preparation continues!

  • Fence installation complete.
  • Construction trailer installed.
  • Demolition permits received for 24-34 Heath Street and the AMC.
  • Before demolition, 24-34 Heath Street and the AMC will be abated to safely remove hazardous materials. 
  • Water/sewer lines discontinued.
  • Tree removal near completion.
  • Flood water discharge ongoing.  Emptied tanks will be removed in March or April.

Construction Update 1 – 2/13/2023

The Community Builders and the general contractor, Consigli, are coordinating pre-construction work before the demolition of the vacant 24-34 Heath St. residential building and Anna Mae Cole Community Center (“AMC”) which includes:

  • Removing water from the basements of the AMC, 24-34 Heath St. and 930 Parker Street residential buildings
  • Cutting off water/sewer lines that service the 24-34 Heath St. residential building and the AMC
  • Safely removing hazardous materials from those two buildings
  • Fence installation around the construction site and blocking off specific parking areas (see map below of the affected areas)
  • Tree removal

The Community Builder’s community engagement staff will be onsite during fence installation and tree removal to answer questions from residents. The team continues to coordinate with the Boston Housing Authority and the Mildred Hailey Tenant Task Force to ensure open lines of communication of when site work will take place and how this might impact nearby residents.
